Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning that it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere and should be flushed and changed every two years. Moisture absorbed by the fluid will eventually corrode the master cylinder and brake caliper components. Changing brake fluid on a regular basis is probably the most overlooked area of routine maintenance on all cars. You will greatly extend the life of your hydraulic system by doing this every two years.
Use only DOT 4 fluid, do not use DOT 3 or DOT 5 fluids.
