To check the integrity of your
alternator pulley, simply remove the belt and place a screwdriver into
the front of the alternator cooling fan to stop the armature from
rotating. Then, turn the pulley by hand. If it rotates one direction but,
not the other, it is functional. If it will not rotate at all, it has
failed and must be replaced. The pulley and pulley removal tool are also available separately and shown below.

Freewheel Clutch/Pulley for alternator and is a known cause of many serpentine belt related problems. These units are standard equipment on all new Sprinter alternators.

This tool is required to remove and replace the decoupling alternator pulleys on all Sprinters, with either Bosch or Valeo alternators and Metris, as well.
This unit can replace the 90 Amp, 120 Amp and 150 Amp alternators without ANY modification. The 200 amp alternator is larger in diameter than the three lesser amperage units. Even so, it can still be installed without modification. There is very little space to work in this area so, keep this in mind, as it will require some patience during the installation process.
